Game of thrones review season 2 episode 4- Everyone has declared himself a king so far in Game of thrones, but still there is only one king who sits on the throne and the others fight among themselves. The Starks have been preparing themselves for the war against the Lannisters and we see now their attack on the soldiers of the Lannisters in their war camp.
In the middle of the night, unprepared, the Lannisters’ army is attacked by the army of Robb Stark. In the morning we see a battlefield full of injured soldiers and we learn that the battle is won by the Starks. A young girl helps the injured soldiers and Robb shows interest about her.
The word of the Lanisters’ defeat has reached the king. Angry about this, Joffrey threatens Sansa by holding a crossbow at her while a lot of people watch in the throne room. Instead of shooting her, Jofrey orders a man of the Kingsguard to strip her and beat her in front of everyone.
While everyone looks on, Tyrion enter the room and protest about the mistreatment of Sansa, reminding Joffrey that she is his fiancée and shouldn’t treat her in that way. Sansa thanks Tyrion looking at him with shame and fear.
Tyrion senses the fear in her eyes and offers her a way out of the situation. Petrified by Joffrey she denies his offer, convincing him that she loves the king and wants to marry him. Tyrion is very well aware of his nephew’s character so he decides to take some action.
After this charade, Tyrion sends two whores in Joffrey’s room to loosen him up. Annoyed by his uncle’s act, Joffrey decides to punish him by ordering one of the women to beat harshly the other woman.
Under the order of Tyrion, Littlefinger visits Renly Baratheon to tell him he has support of many people in King’s Landing. He also tells Margaery that he is aware that she and Renly sleep in different tents, in other words, he is very much aware of Renly’s sexual orientation.
Eventually, Littlefinger pays visit to Catelyn Stark who is angry with him because of his betrayal to Ned. She takes a dagger and points to him but a single question calms her down. Yes, she wants to see her daughters and she gladly accepts her husband’s remains that Baelish has brought to her.
We see Catelyn meeting with the self-declared kings Stannis and Renly Baratheon in order to convince both of them to unite their forces against their true enemy-king Joffrey. Both of them deny and they want to defeat each other.
Stannis gives Renly time till dawn to lower his weapons and in return he will be given a council seat, but Renly denies and tells Stannis that nobody wants to see him sitting on the Iron Throne. Stannis thinks that he is the rightful heir and intends to take it by any means. He will kill his brother if he has to.
Meanwhile, in the Red Waste, one of the riders that Daenerys sent to find civilizations has returned with a horse that was given to him as gift from the people of the city Qarth. In the previous episode of Game of thrones, Rhakaro’s horse returned with his head in a bag, as a warning from the khalasar from afar.
Daenerys was furious then, but now she sees a way out when she understands that the people of Qarth might receive her as their guest. Mormont warns her that the area outside Qarth is called Garden of Bones, because many people died outside the city’s gates.
But she has no other choice now and she chooses to risk and decides to go and meet the Thirteen who are the city’s rulers. When they get there, the Thirteen wait outside the city’s gates and they demand to see the dragons but she denies.
Desperate and angry, she threatened them that she will burn the city to the ground once the dragons reach maturity. Daenerys and her khalasar are welcomed in the city after one of the Thirteen, Xaro Xhoan Daxos vouches for her.
Remember how the Night’s Watch recruits ended up in the previous episode of Game of thrones? Well, now we see them being prisoners at Harrenhal and being brought for questioning. Every day one of them is being tortured and then killed.
That night is the first time that Arya Stark makes her list of names of the people she wants to kill. You can be sure that this list will grow bigger, as there are many people who have done wrong to her and others who are about to do so. The very next night she adds the Mountain to her list, because she saw him torturing the prisoners.
When Gendry is picked out of the prisoners and brought for questioning, just before they start torture him Lord Tywin Lannister arrives. He orders his men instead of torturing the prisoners to give them work and use their skills. He immediately sees that Arya is a girl and takes her to be his cup-bearer.
Stannis Baratheon tells his advisor, Ser Davos, that he should do something for him and not to talk about it with anyone. Well, the mystery lies with the red priestess, Melisandre. Davos is about to take her ashore, somewhere far from civilization.
Let us remind that in the previous episode Melisandre offered herself to Stannis, promising him a boy heir. As they enter a cave, she takes out her clothes and we can see her in last stage of pregnancy, getting ready to give birth.
Davos is shocked as well as the audience, how on earth she managed to become pregnant and get at the last stage of pregnancy in a few days? There must be something demonic about this. And yes, it’s true, it is demonic, we can see how instead of baby a dark and shadowy some kind of creature in size and shape of a man gets out of her. Creepy, right?
