Game of Thrones review season 5 episode 9 -In the military camp, Melisandre can feel something is wrong. She steps outside only to see several tents catch fire and men and horses run in panic. The next morning, Ser Davos reports the huge damage to Stannis trying to convince him that they are weakened and they can’t push forward.
Stannis has another plan. He sends Ser Davos to Castle Black on a mission to get food, supplies and horses from Jon Snow, and in return when he takes the throne, the Night’s Watch will have all the men they need to guard the wall. Davos doesn’t like the idea but cannot refuse his king.
Ser Davos asks to take Shireen with him but Stannis doesn’t want to hear of it and wants his family to stay with him. Before he leaves for Castle Black, Ser Davos gives a present to Shireen, a stag made of wood.
Blinded by Melisandre, Stannis makes a choice, to offer his daughter as a sacrifice to the Lord of Light. They believe that as she has the blood of the king she has to be burned to the stake. They believe it’s the only way.
As the girl is burned alive she is begging and screaming but Stannis does nothing. He barely even looks at her. Her mother tries to intervene at the end but is stopped. The whole army turns their heads in disgust, only Melisandre stares at the fire with admiration and pleasure.
Jon, Thormund and the other survivors of the battle with the army of the dead, described in the review of the previous episode of Game of Thrones season 5, now stand before the Wall. Jon is not surprised seeing Ser Alliser Thorne have second thoughts about opening the gate, but is relieved as the gate finally opens.
Several thousand wildlings and one giant enter Castle Black. Some men of the Night’s Watch are looking at Jon with despise. They feel betrayed. Olly is one of them.
In Dorne, Jaime is brought before prince Doran Martell, Myrcella and Tristane. He explains about his plan of taking Myrcella and about the threat, her necklace in the jaws of a viper. Doran looks at Ellaria, knowing her intentions.
He decides to release Jaime and Bronn not wanting to go to war, and to send Myrcella back to Westeros only if Trystane goes with her and he takes the place of Oberyn on the small council.
Later, Ellaria is given a choice; either swear allegiance to Doran or die. She starts crying and kneels before him kissing his hand. She visits Jaime telling him that she knows about him and Cersei and believes that his daughter and even he had nothing to do with the death of Oberyn.
Disguised as the girl who sells oysters, Arya prepares to poison the tin man, her target mentioned in the previous review of Game of Thrones season 5. As she gets close to him she sees a group of men from Westeros along with Meryn Trant. He is on her kill list. Arya follows the men and at the end of the day they go in to a brothel.
At the brothel, Meryn is presented with several girls, but he sends them off asking for a little girl. He takes her it a room asking for a fresh one for the next night.When Arya arrives at the house of Black and White she lies to Jaqen about the tin man.
Daenerys, Tyrion, Daario and the others are attending the grand finals of the fighting pits as Hizdahr arrives last. As Hizdahr defends the traditional fighting in the pits, Daenerys and Tyrion still believe that violence and bloodshed are not the answer. Despite all, Daenerys claps her hands and two men begin to fight.
In the second battle half a dozen men enter the pit. One of them is Jorah. He asks to fight for the glory of Daenerys. One by one the men slaughter each other until Jorah remains the last one alive. He takes a spear and throws it towards Daenerys. The spear kills one of the Sons of the Harpy who was behind her with a dagger.
Suddenly the Sons of the Harpy are everywhere. They are trying to reach the queen, killing everybody in their way, including Hizdahr who was thought to be their leader. Jorah and Darrio are trying to get Daenerys out alive but are surrounded by a large number of the Sons of the Harpy.
Daenerys closes her eyes when Drogon, the largest of her dragons flies in burning most of the Sons. As Drogon is hit by several spears Daenerys pulls one out of him, climbs on his back and they fly away. Tyrion is amazed.
