Game of thrones review season 6 episode 8 – Many interesting things happened in the previous episode of Game of thrones season 6 and we were left with one mayor question unanswered: will Arya Stark survive? The story continues in episode 8 with the appearance of Lady Crane.
After the play, Lady Crane finds Arya in her changing room, lying wounded and almost unconscious. Lady Crane takes Arya in her chambers and takes care of her wound. They talk and Lady Crane invites Arya to join the acting group. Arya warns Lady Crane that they both won’t be safe while the girl is looking for Arya. Arya takes some milk of the poppy and instantly goes to sleep.
Some while ago Tyrion joined Daenerys’ advisors and he took great part in ruling Meereen, together with Lord Varys, Grey Worm and Missandei. Lord Varys is going on some kind of mission and he leaves Mereen.
Since Daenerys disappearance from Mereen Tyrion is the one who makes the main decisions for the city. He made a deal with the masters of Astapor and Yunkai, giving the masters 11 years to abandon slavery.
Now, while Tyrion tries to spend some friendly time with Grey Worm and Missandei, the city bells start to toil and they see that a fleet is approaching Mereen. The masters of Yunkai and Astapor have come to Mereen to fight against freedom and return the city to slavery.
While Tyrion talks with Grey Worm about defending the city, Daenerys comes back in the Pyramid. OK guys, the Queen is home now, she will handle the situation. Tyrion admitted that he had made a mistake but Daenerys has come back with a great army and she has control over Drogon now, the biggest of her dragons. Watch out masters!
Talking about causing problems, Cersei caused a great problem the moment she decided to give power to religion. Now she has to fight these religious men and she has the most powerful weapon- The Mountain. The High Septon sent his men to take Cersei to the Sept of Baelor, but she refuses to leave with them.
Instead going to the Sept, she chooses violence and so The Mountain demonstrates the violence when one of the men tries to take him down. Like a little toy, The Mountain smashes the man and tears his head apart in front of the others. Cersei leaves with a smile on her face, certain that she will save herself from the trial.
Unfortunately, King Tommen announces the day of the trial for both Cersei and Ser Lorras Tyrell and he also announces that the trial by combat will be forbidden in all of the seven kingdoms. When Cersei hears this she feels betrayed by her own son. Maester Qyburn gives Cersei little hope by telling her about some rumor they have heard.
The rumor is not only a rumor, it’s more than that. Ok, now what this could be? We know from previous episodes in Game of thrones that Cersei is up to something, she is looking for something that will help her destroy her enemies, but what can be of such great power to destroy so many enemies?
Elsewhere in the kingdom, The Hound finds a group of men and instantly starts killing them. He questions the last man about the location of the others, the men who slaughtered his friends. Unfortunately, he gets no answer and kills the last man of the group.
Later, The Hound meets with Beric Dondarrion and his followers in the woods. They are hanging three men for disobeying orders, for slaughtering a Septon and his followers. The Hound searches the same men for the same reason. He is being allowed to kill two of them, but only by hanging them.
The Hound stays to dinner with Beric and his people. They try to convince The Hound to join them, to join their purpose. The Hound tried joining a group and he failed, they are all dead now. But what if he joins the followers of the Lord of the Light? How will that turn out?
In episode 7 of Game of thrones season 6 we saw Sansa secretly writing a letter. In episode 8 we see Brienne arriving in Riverrun and so we immediately connect these two events. Brienne has come to ask help from Blackfish, but it seems like there is a problem in her mission. She meets with Jaime and they discuss about the situation.
Brienne asks permission from Jaime to enter the castle so that she can persuade Blackfish to surrender and if she succeeds Jaime will let the Tully army pass freely towards Winterfell. Jaime gives word to Brienne and time until nightfall. Unfortunately, Blackfish is very stubborn so he won’t leave his home. He has decided to stay and fight for his home.
Brienne asks Pod to find the Maester so that she can send a raven to Sansa, informing Sansa about her failure. Meanwhile, Jaime makes a deal with Lord Edmure. Jaime assures Lord Edmure that if he enters the castle as a free man and gives order to the men to surrender, Jaime will make sure that Lord Edmure will be free a man and he can also see his wife and child.
Lord Edmure likes the idea of not being a prisoner and so he accepts Jaime offer. He goes at the gates of the castle and demands entry. Blackish warns the soldiers that this is a trap but they won’t listen so they let Lord Edmure enter. Once he is in, Lord Edmure gives command to the soldiers to lower the gates and capture Blackfish.
Jaime and the Freys enter the castle freely while Brienne escapes with Poddrick. The Blackfish decides to stay in the castle and die fighting for his home. Jaime sees Brienne and Pod in the river while they are escaping, but he gives no order for their capture, he waves her instead and she waves back. Brienne and Poddrick managed to escape and they are going back to Sansa.
Meanwhile in Braavos, Arya is woken up by a noise in neighbor room. She calls for Lady Crane but hears no response. Arya was blind for too long and she sharpened her other senses, so now she was able to defeat the nameless girl. Arya put her face in the Hall of Faces and Jaqen sees this bloody face on the wall. He tells Arya that she has finally become no one. Arya doesn’t agree, she is aware that she is Arya Stark of Winterfell, she always has been, and now she is going home. Good job, Arya!
